Mingyur Yeshe

My official initiation into the Tibetan Dzogchen Buddhism by Tsoknyi Rinpoche. My new name became Mingyur Yeshe.

This name holds profound spiritual significance, reflecting both personal qualities and deep-rooted Buddhist teachings. The name can be broken down into two parts:

1. Mingyur (མི་འགྱུར་)

Mingyur is composed of two Tibetan words:

  • མི་ (Mi) – meaning not or un-, indicating negation or permanence.
  • འགྱུར་ (Gyur) – meaning to change, to transform, or to alter.

Together, Mingyur translates as "unchanging" or "immutable". It symbolizes the unchanging nature of ultimate reality, beyond birth, death, and dualistic perceptions. This reflects the pure and luminous nature of the mind, untouched by worldly experiences.

2. Yeshe (ཡེ་ཤེས་)

Yeshe is composed of two parts:

  • ཡེ་ (Ye) – meaning primordial, original, or innate.
  • ཤེས་ (She) – meaning wisdom, awareness, or knowledge.

Yeshe translates as "primordial wisdom" or "innate awareness". It refers to the wisdom that recognizes the true nature of reality, realizing emptiness (shunyata) and the interconnectedness of all phenomena.

Combined Meaning of Mingyur Yeshe

When combined, Mingyur Yeshe can be interpreted as:

  • "Unchanging Primordial Awareness"
  • "Timeless Enlightened Mind"

The name reflects the timeless and unchanging nature of the enlightened mind, recognizing the true nature of reality as primordially pure and innately wise. It emphasizes the stability of wisdom that remains unshaken by worldly experiences.

Spiritual Context and Symbolism

In Tibetan Buddhism, names carry deep spiritual blessings. The name Mingyur Yeshe inspires one to realize their inherent Buddha-nature and guide others toward awakening. It is associated with masters of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages, known for teachings on Mahamudra and Dzogchen, emphasizing recognition of the true nature of mind.

Mingyur Yeshe in front of Vallalar Mirror

This is the mirror that Vallalar used for meditation for over 15 years with only a candle light for making himself visible during night meditation (located in North Chennai). This was my second trip through South India when I was 33. Again very high energy but concentrated all over the body.

Thavasi cave of Sathuragiri hills

This is a photo taken inside the Thavasi cave of Sathuragiri hills, south of Madurai, where many famous saints and siddhars have meditated. This was my third trip to South India and the best, where I fell in love with this part of the world. The energy was extremely high, very much concentrated in the head and above.

To see the whole trip, click on the link Thavasi cave above.

Meditation in a serene location.

Meditation Basement

This is a very special photo taken inside the meditation basement of the Jeeva saint Gnana Desikar, one of the most energetic places I have ever meditated.

Pranavananda Ashram

This is a photo taken on top of the Kolli hills where the Pranavananda ashram is located. Clothes are considered an attachment and another layer of protecting the ego in such environments. One of the most serene locations and energy I have experienced in South India. Click on the link Pranavananda for more info and images.

Nityananda Cave

Some of the meditation caves at the Kanhangad Ashram that Nityananda and Balak Das Yogini used. It was my fourth trip through South India, including Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Very powerful Nityananda caves.

Mingyur Yeshe with Chinnakunji

My stay with Chinnakunji Avadhoota Siddhar on my fifth trip through South India, south of the Kolli hills. We meditated and slept together, and it was an amazing experience.

Mahamaham Celebration

Mahamaham celebration on February 22, 2016, near Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu. Thavathiru Marudhachala Adigalar handed over a certificate in front of 200 swamis as an appreciation for helping out spiritual life in Tamil Nadu.

Rajaswami

My India trips started with the music Turiya Nada - cave of the siddhars. I finally met Rajaswami (next to his wife) who was part of making this fantastic CD possible together with the help of Nandhiji.

John de Ruiter

Of course, it is not all happening in India and Tibet with only Indian and Tibetan masters. Here, I joined a retreat with John de Ruiter from Canada, who is also very powerful. I believe that John is one of the few teachers that reaches the same depth as the siddhars I met in India. Truly worth visiting.

Pulippara

Most of the powerful places seem to be in India and Tibet. Above, you see Pulippara, one of the most powerful places in Kerala, South India. This is where Prabhakara Siddhar stayed in his last years—a truly powerful place.

Snake Temple

The Snake Temple in Kerala, where I met and received a darshan from Uma Devi Antharjanam. A very powerful place blessed by Valia Amma. If you ever go there, make sure to visit Uma Devi Antharjanam.
